Comparison
Reval vs Recharge
Recharge is one of the world's leading subscription platforms for Shopify: mature and used by major DTC brands (at Latech we run it for US clients). But it has a clear limit in LATAM: Recharge does not bill with Mercado Pago. Automatic recurring billing on Shopify runs on the gateways the platform enables — Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal Express, Authorize.net and Adyen — which in the region process on international rails and tend to see higher decline rates. Reval is built specifically to bill Shopify subscriptions with Mercado Pago (local acquiring) in LATAM. If you sell in the US or Europe, Recharge is a great option; if you sell in LATAM and need Mercado Pago, Reval.
Recharge data comes from its public support documentation and from Shopify's documentation on gateways enabled for subscriptions, verified on 2026-09-16. Recharge ships changes often: re-verify their supported gateways before making a decision.
The point that decides it: billing
For automatic subscription billing, Shopify enables a short list of gateways: Shopify Payments, Stripe (eligible stores only), PayPal Express, Authorize.net and Adyen. Availability depends on country and terms of service, and Mercado Pago is not on that list for automatic recurring billing. Shopify sets that rule at platform level, so any subscription app built on that checkout inherits it, Recharge included: it does not auto-bill with Mercado Pago. In LATAM that matters, because international processing tends to decline more than local acquiring, and in recurring billing every decline is a subscriber lost without meaning to leave.

Footnotes
- 1. Shopify, not the app, defines the gateways enabled for recurring billing, and availability varies by country and terms of service. Recharge also documents other processors depending on platform and region (for example SEPA and iDEAL for EU merchants, or legacy gateways for migrations only).
- 2. In Reval, failed-charge retries are executed by Mercado Pago. Reval logs the failure and its reason, and recovery notifications are sent from Klaviyo or Shopify Flow.
What we respect about Recharge
Recharge is an excellent, mature product and a global reference in the category. At Latech we use it to run subscription programs for US DTC brands. This is not about better or worse in the abstract: it is about which market and which payment method.
Where Reval is different
It bills with Mercado Pago.
Reval uses Mercado Pago automatic debit, with local acquiring. In LATAM that means higher approval on every charge and less involuntary churn.
It is built for local recurrence.
Frequencies, communication and a self-service portal designed for the regional buyer, on your existing Shopify store and with no migration.
Not just software, a team.
Built and operated by Latech, a Shopify Plus Partner agency that runs subscription programs for US DTC brands using the world's leading apps, Recharge included. That know-how comes with the strategy.
