Reval vs Skio

Skio is a premium subscription platform for Shopify, chosen by major DTC brands (at Latech we work with these leading tools in the United States). But, like every app built on Shopify's infrastructure, Skio does not bill with Mercado Pago: automatic recurring billing flows through the gateways Shopify enables — Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal Express, Authorize.net and Adyen — which in LATAM process on international rails and tend to see higher decline rates. Reval is built specifically to bill Shopify subscriptions with Mercado Pago (local acquiring) in LATAM. If you sell in the US or Europe, Skio is a great option; if you sell in LATAM and need Mercado Pago, Reval.

Skio data comes from its public help center, its Shopify App Store listing and Shopify's documentation on gateways enabled for subscriptions, verified on 2026-09-16. Skio was acquired by Recharge and now operates as part of that company: re-verify its status and supported gateways before making a decision.

The point that decides it: billing

Skio does not process payments itself: when a subscription charge comes due, Skio triggers the order and Shopify routes it to the connected gateway. For recurring billing, Shopify enables a short list of gateways (Shopify Payments, Stripe for eligible stores, PayPal Express, Authorize.net and Adyen) and Mercado Pago is not included for automatic recurring billing. Shopify sets that rule at platform level, so Skio does not auto-bill with Mercado Pago. In LATAM that matters: international processing tends to decline more than local acquiring, and in recurring billing every decline is involuntary churn.

Footnotes

  • 1. Shopify, not the app, defines the gateways enabled for recurring billing, and availability varies by country and terms of service. Skio documents that it does not process payments itself: the charge is executed by the gateway connected to the store.
  • 2. In Reval, failed-charge retries are executed by Mercado Pago. Reval logs the failure and its reason, and recovery notifications are sent from Klaviyo or Shopify Flow.

What we respect about Skio

Skio is a premium product, highly regarded by major brands, and now part of Recharge. This is not about better or worse in the abstract: it is about which market and which payment method. For LATAM with Mercado Pago, the answer is Reval.

Where Reval is different

It bills with Mercado Pago.

Reval uses Mercado Pago automatic debit, with local acquiring. In LATAM that means higher approval on every charge and less involuntary churn.

It is built for local recurrence.

Frequencies, communication and a self-service portal designed for the regional buyer, on your existing Shopify store and with no migration.

Not just software, a team.

Built and operated by Latech, a Shopify Plus Partner agency that runs subscription programs for US DTC brands using the world's leading apps. That know-how comes with the strategy.
